Me llamo Mª Esperanza Cagiao Escohotado. Soy natural de Madrid, donde me licencié en Ciencias Químicas por la Universidad Complutense en Julio de 1969, en la especialidad de Química Orgánica. Tras un periodo de varios años en la industria privada, inicié mi actividad investigadora en Enero de 1976, en la actual Unidad Estructural de Física Macromolecular del Instituto de Estructura de la Materia (I.E.M.). Obtuve el grado de Doctor en Ciencias Químicas por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid el 14 de Marzo de 1980. Más tarde conseguí una beca postdoctoral para trabajar en Estrasburgo (Francia), en el "Centre de Resherches sur les Macromolecules". En Noviembre de 1985 me reincorporé a mi antigua Unidad Estructural en el I.E.M., y en ella continúo trabajando en la actualidad. Obtuve la plaza de Colaborador Científico el 1 de Febrero de 1987. Los temas de investigación en los que he trabajado en los últimos años son los siguientes:
- Polímeros de origen natural.
- Microestructura y propiedades mecánicas de mezclas de polímeros.
- Microestructura y propiedades mecánicas de copolímeros en bloque.
- Estudio del "composite" poliimida-fulereno C60.
- Caracterización de mezclas de polímeros vinílicos entrecruzados.
